# Languages

> Change the app language in Craft on each platform, and learn how Craft downloads fonts for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Craft is available in several languages. The available languages differ by platform.

## Supported Languages

### Apple Devices (Mac, iPad, iOS)

Craft is available in the following languages on Apple devices:

* English
* Spanish
* French
* German
* Italian
* Japanese
* Korean
* Chinese (Simplified)
* Chinese (Traditional)
* Hungarian

By default, Craft uses your device's preferred language if Craft supports it. You can choose a different language for Craft in Settings.

### Change Language on Apple Devices

## Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Fonts

When Craft's language is set to Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), or Chinese (Traditional), the **Serif**, **Mono**, and **Rounded** fonts use typefaces made for that language to show Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters. Latin text in your documents keeps the same font.

Craft chooses these fonts based on its app language, not on the language of the text in your document.

  If you mostly write in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, set Craft's language to match, so that characters shared between these languages appear in the forms used in your language.

### Apple Devices (Mac, iPad, iOS)

Craft downloads the fonts the first time you switch to one of these languages, and the new fonts take effect after you restart Craft. Fonts for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean on Apple devices require Craft 3.7 or later. The **System** font uses the font built into your device. For other app languages, Craft doesn't download these fonts and uses the fonts built into your device.

    In Settings, open **Language & Spelling**, select **Language**, and choose Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), or Chinese (Traditional).

  <Step title="Wait for the download">
    If the fonts aren't on your device yet, the **Downloading Fonts** panel appears while Craft downloads them. Your device needs an internet connection.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Restart Craft">
    When the **Restart Craft** panel appears, restart the app:

    * **Mac:** Click **Restart App**. Craft closes and opens again.
    * **iPad and iOS:** Tap **OK**, then close Craft completely from the app switcher and open it again.

    If you choose **Later**, the new fonts are used the next time you open Craft.

The **Restart Craft** panel also appears when you switch from one of these languages to another language, for example from Japanese to English or from Chinese (Simplified) to Chinese (Traditional).

If you haven't chosen a language in Craft and your device's language is one of these four, Craft downloads the fonts automatically when it starts.

  If the download fails, check your internet connection and select **Try Again** in the panel.

### Web and Windows

On Web and Windows, Craft loads the fonts for Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), and Chinese (Traditional) automatically based on the app language. You don't need to restart. If Craft is set to a language other than Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, the **Serif**, **Mono**, and **Rounded** fonts show Chinese characters in their Japanese forms. To use Chinese forms, set Craft's language to Chinese (Simplified) or Chinese (Traditional).

## Help Center Language

The Help Center is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Vietnamese, Chinese (Simplified), and Chinese (Traditional). Use the language selector at the top of the page to switch languages.
